Self assessment & Finish

Now the the video is finished, the voice over is done and all the paperwork is completed, I must now show the video to members of the class so that they can comment and criticise by filling in a questionnaire I've made. Then after collecting this feedback, I can write my 1000 word self assessment.

Production

Yesterday I went to Gelli Park to film the advert. Joby and Nathan accompanied me, along with Patrick who was on screen. It was very hot and we got tired quickly, this helped however, the brightness adding to the 'Italian' weather. There were people in the park, so we normally had to work around them but we managed well. Patrick followed instructions well, except for a few problems: even when told not to look at the camera or me during the shoot, he did so in almost every shot. His facial expression was also bland and not very expressive, but he tried his best and I thank him for it. His face worked better in some shots where the wind was actually overwhelming, such as the car shots.
The shots worked out pretty well, although the sound wasn't appropriate because Patrick wasn't shouting loud enough. I tried to record the slogan using the mic on the camera but it wasn't very good quality. I'll consult Chris Summerill to see if I can use the studio. Another hazard was that I forgot to put on suncream, so I was quite badly burnt.

Pre-production

My pitch was successful and so today I started my Pre-production paperwork. I've already finished my location risk assessments, the storyboards, and camera scripts.
I've finished a call sheet, and should be filming the 'Shop' scenes on Monday.
By then I will print off a paper image of the Vigorsol box and stick it to a box, for a product shot. I'll also buy a packet of green Airwaves from the shop prior to filming.
I've changed my initial idea slightly from the original; I've removed the character of the shop assistant and the shop setting altogether. Instead I've opted for a park setting and I shall use Patrick instead of myself as he is darker skinned (more Italian) and I'm currently trying to grow a beard which doesn't bode well for an advert aimed at Italian youth.

The Pitch

Today I did my Powerpoint pitch for the Vigorsol advert. It has five slides and in it, I roughly outlined my idea and also gave information on the product and the manufacturer. I also explained the demographic and the audience intended for the brief. I discussed the legal constraints of the brief, e.g Advertising Standards Authority. I inserted a mind-map of some ideas, some requirements etc into the presentation as well.

The brief write-up

Last night managed to start and surprisingly finish the paper on the brief. It was a minimum of 500 words but I passed that with about 751. I wrote about everything that was required in the assignment brief and once I knew what I had to write, and after doing some background research on the brand involved, it was surprisingly easy and didn't take long.

Vigorsol

Of all the ideas I have made, I have chosen to do the advert on Vigorsol chewing gum, aimed at Italian youth. I have a rough idea of the video. I like many of my ideas, mostly because they're doable and don't need much, if any, funding. Now I will write a paper of at least 500 words that will discuss the requirements of the brief. I'll also brainstorm and make mind-maps of my research to help the idea.

Introduction

For this advert we must work individually whilst also helping others with their adverts. There is a selection of products to advertise such as Hellman's, KFC, Axe, Levis and more. As of yet I only have contemplative ideas, so I will work on them. I've already completed the piece evaluating advertising techniques and structures and how companies target audiences, putting them into the form of 5 different adverts with a paragraph each.
